The Pedder House, Preston

To complete our recent sightings of Doll’s Houses -

We went the the temporary Wallace & Grommit exhibition at The Harris in Preston. This was well worth the visit but, as I failed to remember what the assistant said when I asked which floor the exhibition was on, we ended up walking round the whole museum. That turned out to be a good thing because in one room we found The Pedder House.

Margaret Pedder was the daughter of a Preston Banker (which is to say he founded the Bank). There was some stuff about the bank and its collapse. The Doll’s House was made for Margaret in 1820 and it was passed down the family to Elizabeth Ann Wilson. She died in 1944 and the family donated the house to the Museum.
