Cambridge

Two days later we visited Cambrige Station now on the return trip from Harold Wood.

We parked on the west of the city near to Magdalene college and walked through the city to the station. It turned out that Magdalene had been the key player in stopping the first attempts to build a station in Cambridge. When it was finally built the station was out of town, as was often the case with the early railways.

The scissor crossing in the background got special note as it was an unusual feature of the original station.

We remembered to take a photo of ourselves this time.

Notice the welcome board in above our heads. “Home of ARU”.  ARU is Anglica Ruskin University (the old Poly for those of us who remember such things).

Cambridge University may not have been mentioned on the sign but the crests of the colleges were on the walls of the station. It took some time to find Magdalene but it was there, tucked away a bit round the corner.
