Harry Coombs'
Church Photography

The photos in this area were taken by A H F (Harry) Coombs a member of St. James' Church, Norton. When Harry emigrated, as the age of 90, he left the photos behind with my mother and I inherited them from her. The accompanying folder contained an explanation of Harry's interest in churches and photography which was also incorporated into the talk he gave. Notes on one of his talks were taken by my mother, Joy Phillips.

There were seven boxes of slides with well over 700 slides. Each slide was numbered although there were some gaps. Also there were a few slides which were evidently added later and may have been from other sources.

Most of the slides had a handwritten title and this is the information shown on the database. He also had a handwritten list of all the slides which has also been used though it is not very easy to read in places.

I kept the slides themselves for several years but having scanned them all I eventually decided that I was no longer able to store the originals. It will be seen that by modern standards many of the slides are not particularly high standard but they seemed an interesting collection and record.
