Riddings Viaduct Opens for walkers

Riddings Viaduct is one of two former crossings of the England-Scotland border by the Waverley Line. Riddings was just down the line from Canonbie Junction which was the subject of one of my former Model Railways. The terminus of that branch line was Langholm which, God willing, will feature on my new Springfield Layout in a few years time.

Several years ago the viaduct was up for sale at £1 provided that the new owner maintained the viaduct in a safe condition.

According to the BBC website article about the re-opening is seems that the National Highways ended up as the owners and it is they that have opened it to walkers.

I should admit that the premise of the Springfield layout is that the North British Railway gained parliamentary permission to build a line from Carlisle through Canonbie and Langholm and Evesdale to Hawick and on to Edinburgh. If they had succeeded then there would certainly n to have been a terminus a Langholm and presumably a double track viaduct at Riddings.
