The notes had arisen in part out of frustration with resources produce for school worship which often handle the Bible in a very superficial way, and sometimes in a very misleading way.

The aim was not to produce a new resource for teachers on how to deliver worship but mainly to provide a Biblical background (in a common format) for each unit, though sometimes with accompanying suggestions. The teacher, or whoever leads worship, ought to be the experts on delivery but the aim was to help them, and hope that what the children are being taught is faithful to the Word of God.

For use at St James the notes consist of two sides of A4, one containing the notes written by David Phillips, then Vicar of St James Chorley. The reverse contained suggestions for how those delivering worship, usually written by those leading the worship.

This website has been created in the autumn of 2025 after at least two SIAMS inspections which encouraged the wider dissemination of the material. Initially it is the first side of each set of notes that will be added, with some other background material. God willing the notes on delivery will be added later.
