Joy Phillips' notes on
Norton, its Church and environs

Pages under devlopment and liable to change March 2010

The material had been collected by Joy Phillips over a number of years. The list here refers to the content as at her death in February 2010. Many of the folders contain handwritten notes and transcripts of documents.

The material relates largely to the ancient village of Norton, now part of Sheffield, and its surrounding area. There is a lot of material on St. James parish Church, the Blythe Family, Sir Francis Chantrey and some material on such things as the Bagshawes, Oakes Park, Norton Hall, Norton House etc.

Joy compiled many indexes, sub-indexes and lists of the material she had compiled. The intention is to gradually add more detail to the website either by transcribing the indexes, lists and possibly some of the documents, or by scanning them.
