We visited Bramhall Hall in Bramhall Park, Stockport and in Historic Houses.

The whole exterior was not its best as the roof was being repaired.
And the reign of Elizabeth the first and through to the English Civil War, the family found themselves mixing their support.
The main Hall has the coat of arms of Queen Elizabeth, but in one of the rooms there is what people believe to be a “ priest hole” to hide catholic priests who were being offered time off purgatory by the Bishop of Rome if they assisted in the assassination of the same Queen.

The house seemed to have problems with bed bugs -

What every medieval house should have - a Billiards Table -

A refreshingly plain chapel for such a house, though it seems that during the Civil War, the two sides took turns in requisitining the house and tearing it apart.

The banqueting room dating from about 1470 is one of the oldest surviving rooms in Bramall Hall. It contains Viking scene painted in Victorian times by Herbert Schmalz.
