John made his will on 15 Jan 1890 and died on 26 Jan 1890.  The will was proved on 10 Feb 1890 with administration being granted to his daughter Jane and son Leonard.  £5 was left to George and Walter.  The remainder of the estate was divided equally between Jane and Leonard.  This amounted to £95.8.6 and included the ‘business as Tobacconist and Newsagent also House agent’.  Also mentioned are monies due from certain policies.

Text of the Will : 
This is the last Will and Testament of me John Phillips of 339 Cheapside Birmingham in the County of Warwick made this fifteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety.  I hereby revoke all wills by me at any time heretofore made  I appoint Jane Phillips and Leonard Phillips to be my Executors and I direct that all my just debts and funeral and Testamentary expenses shall be paid as soon as possible after my decease.  I hereby give and bequeath unto my sons George Phillips and Walter Phillips the sum of five pounds each and the whole remaining money and personal property I may possess at the time of my decease I bequeath to my daughter Jane Phillips and to my son Leonard Phillips to be equally divided by them for their sole use and benefit with the whole interest in my business as Tobacconist and Newsagent also House agent    I also hereby direct that all money due to at my death from the Prudential Insurance Society and the Common Street Sick and Provident Society shall be paid to the said Jane and Leonard Phillips and this shall be their authority to receive the same this applies to all money due to me at the time of or after my death.

Proved at Birmingham on 10th day of February 1890 by the Oaths of Jane Phillips spinster the daughter and Leonard Phillips the son the executors to whom administration was granted.


The Testator John Phillips was late of 339 Cheapside Birmingham in the country of Warwick Newsagent and died on the 26th day of January 1890 at 339 Cheapside aforesaid.
