Addresses and Occupations

When Elizabeth was married she was said to be of the parish of Handsworth (Staffordshire)

Identity of Thomas Brookes

When Elizabeth Brookes married there is nothing to indicate her father's name.
Elizabeth's ages in the censuses are inconsistent. But based on these there are two possible baptisms.
One is more likely, but not conclusive, and on this basis her parents were Thomas and Sarah Brookes and she was baptised at St. Philip B'ham with her sister Sarah on 18 Apr 1808.
The other possibility is that they were William and Martha Brookes.

To date no corroborating information has been found.

In the 1841 Census there are a Thomas and Sarah Brookes but aged 50, which is old enough (Elizabeth was 30 and already married).
They are on Warstone Lane with Mary (23), Ann (20), William (20), Emma (20) and Thomas (9). Mary was apparently born out of county.

There are also a Thomas (60) and Sarah Brookes (67) with Eleanor (22) and William (9).

There are various entries for Thomas Brookes in the 1851 Census. Some are possible but none look right.

Possible children of Thomas Brookes and Sarah

There were baptisms to Thomas and Sarah Brookes at St Martin Birmingham, St Philip Birmingham and Lillington in Warwickshire.
These appear to be at least three separate families.
Copies of some of the baptism register entries for the two Birmingham parishes have been obtained.

If Elizabeth was baptised at St Philip in 1808 then she may have been one of at least 12 children, listed below.

29 Jul 1805	Ann
04 Aug 1806 John
18 Apr 1808 Sarah
18 Apr 1808 Elizabeth
02 Aug 1813 Jane (Abode - Birmingham Heath, Gunstock Filer)
17 Mar 1817 Mary Elizabeth (Abode - Hall Street, Porter)
10 Jan 1820 William Henry
29 Oct 1821 Caroline
08 Apr 1822 Emma
22 May 1823 Thomas Bagster
18 Apr 1825 Frederick - (Abode - )Walston (?) Lane, Packer)
26 Dec 1828 Ann

The names William and Emma tally with the ages in 1841.
Mary was apparently born in 1815 and baptised in 1817. The age of 23 is 2/3 years out. But she is listed as being born out of county.
Ann was apparently born in 1823 and baptised 1828. Her age at 20 is 2 years out, but could be rounded.
It is therefore possible that this is the same family.
